Benefits of breastfeeding

All G supports the World Health Organization (WHO) recommendation that breastfeeding gives infants the best start in life. Breast milk provides complete nutrition and protective factors that support health and development.

We acknowledge that not all babies can be exclusively breastfed, but when possible, breastfeeding offers important benefits.

For infants, breastfeeding:

  • Reduces the risk of gastrointestinal, respiratory, and ear infections.
  • Lowers the risk of sudden infant death syndrome (SIDS).
  • Supports healthy growth and reduces the risk of childhood obesity.
  • Lowers the likelihood of developing type 2 diabetes later in life.
  • Supports brain development and cognitive outcomes.

For mothers, breastfeeding:

  • Aids recovery after childbirth.
  • Reduces the risk of breast and ovarian cancers.
  • Lowers the risk of type 2 diabetes and cardiovascular disease.

The WHO recommends exclusive breastfeeding for the first six months, with continued breastfeeding alongside complementary foods for up to two years or beyond. Always seek advice from a healthcare professional on feeding and nutrition for your baby.
